Manufacturing-factories, the buildings that house the wheels and engines of industry and drive the economies of the world have, since their arrival in the industrial revolution, influenced the look and functional requirements of architecture. Prior to this revolution, ecclesiastical buildings, places of prayer, were the largest most influential buildings. Interesting that in recent years, say since the Bauhaus, the industrial aesthetic has persisted and is now acceptable in the domestic , retail (including coffee culture bars), the office or 'workplace', hospitality, education and leisure sectors. Long may it continue, but with some soft pink!
