Library layouts

Library layouts are normally an after thought and each BIM user (be it Revit, ArchiCAD or Bentley) tends to have a different opinion on it and their own custom way of keeping everything organized.

This is fine up until a certain point, when lots of people are involved. We've also had our own system, putting the BIM content files we build into different folders, such as appliances, furniture, structure, transport and so on. The problem is this isn't consistent, so it's time to adopt a standard.

To name a few, there's

  • CSI MasterFormat 2004
  • CSI OnmiClass 1.0
  • CSI UniFormat II
We are looking at adopting the CSI MasterFormat, as that seems to be the most widely used for laying out specifications. What do you think, which one do you find the easiest to follow?
