The Cardinia Civic Centre is an exciting new project that is expected to be completed late 2013. DesignInc designed and documented the building using Revit, so its fantastic to see BIM being used to create such a building. Revit Structure and Revit MEP models were also used by the various consultants throughout the process to enable better design and co-ordination.

The sustainable design approach begins with overriding imperative to create integrated design solutions where the careful combination of single ideas delivers multiple benefits to client and environment alike. There is plenty of public space and the views from the ground into the upper levels provide glimpses into the councils activities, symbolizing a link between community and council.

The broader urban context for the Cardinia Shire Council Office Building is the Office Activity Centre, a state of the art sustainable precinct design where place-based relationships integrate culture with ecology in a geographical context. The design creates a visual image consistent with Cardinia Shire. Natural, sustainable and durable materials are balanced with appropriate levels of glass and transparency. This creates a building that integrates with its proposed urban context while offering a welcoming face to the community.

We will keep an eye on development and see how the use of integrated BIM proves to be beneficial.
