Burj Khalifa (Burj Dubai) BIM construction simulation.

  • Burj Khalifa (Burj Dubai) BIM construction simulation.
Here's a great video of the Burj Khalifa (formally the Burj Dubai) in the UAE. The Burj as you may know is the world's tallest building. We were lucky enough to see it for real last year and it is amazing in real life, as well as very elegant for such a huge structure. The tower was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP.

More info on the Burj Khalifa can be found here: http://www.burjkhalifa.ae/

Quick facts: At over 828 metres (2,716.5 feet) and more than 160 stories, Burj Khalifa holds the following records:

  • Tallest building in the world
  • Tallest free-standing structure in the world
  • Highest number of stories in the world
  • Highest occupied floor in the world
  • Highest outdoor observation deck in the world
  • Elevator with the longest travel distance in the world
  • Tallest service elevator in the world
The below video shows a full 3D construction model of the Burj and a 3D simulation of it being constructed (sometimes called 4D, 3D + time). It's great to see 3D BIM (Building Information Models) being used to produce informative videos and simulations such as these. It's another great step in the leverage that BIM really brings and I'm sure we will see a lot more of this.
