The platform bed is one of the most architectural but overlooked furniture forms. Of course, Thomas Pheasant sees things a little differently. There really isn't any reason it can't be appropriately restrained but still luxurious. With the Moderne Bed, he looked to architecture itself for a means of elevating the look to something more dignified. The addition of a stepped cove molding makes a difference. A short but simple leg makes for adequate ventilation. And, yes, a decorative brass heel makes it elegant. This version is the untufted look. It is low, edited, and ultimately modern. The form is now important but unembellished. There is a hint of refinement, but the look really depends on the fabric. That allows for the bed to be tightly integrated into the color scheme.
